Bricklyn Federal Chancellor Thurnbrick issued a statement today, for the first time addressing the “Draft Report on the Potential Threats to Bricklyn from the United States,” which The Bricklyn Eagle reported on last month.

The brief statement reads as follows.

“As with many contingencies affecting Bricklyn’s security, the Office of the Federal Chancellor is unable to speak about classified information and documents. I can neither confirm nor deny any of the content in the so-called Draft Report on the Potential Threats to Bricklyn from the United States.

“Bricklyn’s security planning process and documents are classified, and are only shared with the members of the Federal Council in executive session, and with the Office of the Chief Prognosticator and the Office of Outland Relations, and limited others on a ‘need to know’ basis. This does not include The Bricklyn Eagle or any other of our highly esteemed press and news outlets.

“What we can say is that the Office of the Federal Chancellor takes very seriously the security of all residents of the Realm of Bricklyn. At the appropriate time, information will be made publicly available. Again, I cannot say anything further about any of the content set out in the purported Draft Report.”

The Bricklyn Eagle also sought comment from members of the Federal Council, and from the Realm of Bricklyn’s Office of the Chief Prognosticator.

Speaking on behalf of the Federal Council, Council President Hilma Plater-Zybrick offered the following terse statement:

“Given the security concerns facing our Realm at the time of changing administrations in the United States, it would not be appropriate at this time for the Federal Council to say how the Realm of Bricklyn may respond to what actions the Realm of Bricklyn may take.

“I also can neither confirm nor deny any of the information contained in the so-called Draft Report that the Bricklyn Eagle obtained last month.”

We also received the following short, and, as is often the case, cryptic reply from the Office of the Chief Prognosticator:

“Time is like a flowing river. It will guide us in knowing when actions need to be taken.”

To the Editor: Did your paper really receive and publish classified documents? I thought your paper cared about our Realm’s security. I guess I was mistaken. — Ed Tiler Edwards, Bricklyn Jct.

Reply from the Editor: Dear Mr. Edwards. If you were to examine the Draft Report, you would see there were no “classified” markings on any of its pages. With that, and with the verification of the document’s authenticity by two sources (including the unnamed individual who provided us with the copy), we felt it was within our prerogative as a newspaper to quote from the document.

To the Editor: While I respect the individuals who now refuse to comment on any aspect of the Draft Report [on the Potential Threats to Bricklyn from the United Sates], they seem to waffle on whether or not the Draft Report is an actual government document or some sort of forgery. Regardless of this, I think the process of figuring out how Bricklyn will respond to a potential threat of mass deportations should be much more open to ideas and suggestions from the public. — Joyce Openbrick, Bricklyn, VT.

To the Editor: I’m writing this in my capacity as the Outland Liaison to the Realm of Bricklyn, appointed by the State of Vermont. While I have not been involved in any way with the so-called Draft Report, I do want to assure your paper’s Bricklyn readers that we in neighboring Vermont stand ready to support any non-violent efforts of Bricklyn to block the mass deportation of Bricklynites from your enclave in Vermont. — W. Senville, South Burlington, VT.
