Note from the Editor: In preparing her article on the Bricklyn Diner, including an interview with Owner / Chef Dougie Truebrick, reporter Gloria Vanderbrick received some limited assistance from Chat GPT. As Editor, I analyzed the text of her article using an online program called ZeroGPT which identifies text in articles that is likely generated by using Chat GPT AI and claims a 98% accuracy rate.

Zero GPT found that a little under 6% of the text in Vanderbrick’s interview was derived from using Chat GPT.

But here is one of two portions of Ms. Vanderbrick’s text which ZeroGPT highlighted in yellow as having likely been generated by Chat GPT. It’s from the portion of her interview where Dougie describes “Old Gus.”

Reply from Gloria Vanderbrick:
First, I want to let Bricklyn Eagle readers know that I was unaware that my article would be “AI checked” by Editor Brickman. While I am disappointed that this was done without my prior knowledge, as a journalist I understand the importance of dealing up-front with the use, or misuse, of artificial intelligence in our work. I do, however, question the use of ZeroGPT for Bricklyn writers. The indicator in the screenshot above says, “Your Text Is Human written.” This is obviously inaccurate as I am a Lego minifigure, and not a human, even though we minifigures share many human attributes.

However, having said the above, I acknowledge that I did use Chat GPT artificial intelligence in assisting with my writing limited portions of this article, primarily to “flesh out” some of what Dougie Truebrick said to me in recounting two of his stories.
I should have gone back to Mr. Truebrick for follow-up, instead of taking the liberty of adding some words which he did not actually say. But as I was on deadline and did not feel the additions changed the essence of what Mr. Truebrick said, I decided to insert what you see above as the yellow highlighted language. That highlighted text was generated by my use of Chat GPT. For that use of Chat GPT I apologize to all concerned, and to you our readers.
